Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is mudjacking?
Mudjacking is a process used to raise concrete by drilling holes through the top surface of the concrete slab and pumping, under hydraulic pressure, a flowable cement grout underneath?

What can be mudjacked?
Basically any concrete flat work can be lifted. We raise sidewalks, stoops, driveways, pool decks, garage floors, patios, factory floors, office floors, streets and runways.

What is void filling?
Void filling uses a long nozzle to pump the cement grout into voids left under a slab through soil erosion or settlement, or by animal incursion.

How do I get an estimate?
You can request an estimate by filling in our "Request an Estimate" form or by calling our office at (630) 665-1345 Local or Toll Free at 1-800-353-9090.

Is there a charge for an estimate?
No. We provide free estimates.

Do I need to be home?
It is only necessary to be present if the area in question is an interior location, or in a locked structure or yard.

Is there a warranty?
Yes! If the concrete slab(s) sink(s) more than ¼” within one year of performing the work, Raise-Rite will come out and rework the settled slabs. Full warranty details are printed on the back side of the estimating proposal.

Do you accept credit cards?
Yes! We accept Discover, Visa and Master Card, and of course cash and checks.

What are the terms of payment?
Payment is expected within 10 days from the date of work/invoice.

How do I accept a proposal?
If you have reviewed your estimate and decide to have the work done, please sign the estimating proposal in the front left corner “Acceptance of Proposal.” Then forward the signed copy to us via mail, or, fax us at (630) 665-1794.

How do I schedule my work?
Once we receive your signed acceptance, we will contact you to schedule your work.

Do I need to be present when the work is done?
Generally not, as long as the work being done is outside. However, if work is being done on an interior location like a garage floor, or, in a locked yard, then an adult over the age of eighteen is required to be present. PLEASE NOTE: In order to clean the surface when we are done we need access to an exterior water spigot.

Do I need to send a deposit?
No. Payment is not required until after the work is completed. However, payment is expected within our payment terms of ten (10) days.

When can the mudjacking be done?
Mudjacking is dependent on the weather. Therefore, in our climate, we generally work from Mid-March through Mid-December.

How long does the work take to be done?
That depends on the size of the job. However, most residential work can be completed on the day scheduled. Timing and finishing is always dependent upon the weather.

How big are the holes?
The holes that are drilled are approximately 1 5/8 ” in diameter (about the size of a golf ball).

What do you do with the holes when you are done?
The holes are patched with a concrete patch.

Will I notice the holes?
The drill holes are noticeable because we are putting fresh concrete patch on aged concrete. In time, however, the holes will begin to blend with the existing concrete.

What type of material is used?
We use a sand/cement grout mixture comprised of Portland cement and baseball sand.

Will this process work on my asphalt/blacktop driveway?
NO! Asphalt is a bituminous product and will crack and crumble if we try to raise it.

What will happen to the existing cracks in my slab(s)?
Unfortunately, the cracks will still exist. In addition, Raise-Rite does not fill or patch concrete cracks. That is the owner’s responsibility. See our "Tips" page for some suggestions.

How long will the area that is raised be out ofservice?
Most areas can be used right after we finish. However, driveway and garages must be unused for 48 – 72 hours.
